Serving western players from an East Coast PoP means dragging every packet across the continent twice — roughly 60–70 ms of latency that exists for no reason other than geography. The LAX PoP removes that detour: players from California to British Columbia typically reach the edge in well under 30 ms.
LAX is also the transpacific counterpart to Tokyo. A network with a US backend can serve Japanese and Korean players through the pairing, and one with an Asian backend can serve the West Coast, with a single filtered hop either way.
