Minecraft DDoS Protection for the UK

UK players connect to Arvoris through Cloudflare's London and Manchester anycast edge and are filtered at the Frankfurt (FRA) PoP — a 15–25 ms round trip on BT, Sky or Virgin Media. That's low enough that most players can't tell protection is in the path at all, and it starts at $0.

One of Minecraft's oldest communities, still one of its most attacked

The UK has run Minecraft servers about as long as anyone — some of the game's earliest big communities were British, and the scene never went away. Longevity cuts both ways: established servers have reputations, rivalries and ex-players with grudges, and booters cost less than a takeaway. If your `play.yourserver.net` still resolves to your host's real IP, anyone who's ever been banned can point a rented flood at it. The fix is making that IP unreachable — attacks have to land on an edge built to absorb them.

The route a UK player actually takes

A player on Virgin Media in Glasgow or BT in Bristol doesn't connect to Frankfurt over the open internet. They hit Cloudflare's anycast edge at London or Manchester — whichever is nearer — and from there the connection travels Cloudflare's private backbone to Arvoris' Frankfurt (FRA) PoP, where Cryo inspects it at the Minecraft-protocol level. Total round trip: 15–25 ms. Clean traffic is then handed to your backend wherever it lives; hostile traffic never leaves the pipeline.

What you get beyond flood absorption

Transatlantic networks: FRA plus NYC

Plenty of UK networks are really UK-plus-US networks — same language, overlapping evenings. With Arvoris you don't pick a side of the ocean: geo-steering sends each player to the nearest of the 7 PoPs, so Americans filter through New York (NYC) while Brits stay on Frankfurt. The locations page shows the full spread.

Setting it up

One DNS record, roughly 5 minutes, no plugin, no host migration: register, add your server's IP and port as a backend, and point your domain at your Arvoris endpoint via CNAME or SRV. The free plan is the sensible starting point — measure your own ping from London before deciding whether to pay anything. The pipeline you're testing is the same one that has absorbed a 7.15 Tbps volumetric flood and a 50-million-connection Layer-7 attack.

Common questions

Will UK players notice extra lag with Arvoris in front?+

At 15–25 ms round trip, almost never. The first hop lands on Cloudflare's edge in London or Manchester — effectively local for BT, Sky and Virgin Media customers — and the short leg to Frankfurt runs on Cloudflare's private backbone. For context, that's less added distance than many UK players already have to servers hosted in Germany or France.

Why Frankfurt and not a UK PoP?+

Arvoris runs 7 dedicated PoPs (New York, Miami, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Tel Aviv, Singapore, Tokyo), and Frankfurt is the European filtering hub. Because entry is anycast at 330+ Cloudflare cities, the PoP's location matters far less than the entry point's — and the entry point for UK players is in the UK. The London-to-Frankfurt backbone hop is what keeps the total at 15–25 ms.

My network has both UK and American players. How does that work?+

Geo-steering handles it per player: your UK and European players filter through Frankfurt while North American players filter through New York (NYC) or Miami. Same domain, same network — each player takes the short route on their own side of the Atlantic instead of everyone sharing one compromise location.

Do my bans and IP-based plugins still work?+

Yes. PROXY protocol is enabled on every plan including the free one, so your backend sees each player's real IP rather than an edge address. Ban lists, alt detection and per-IP limits behave exactly as before.

What does it cost, and is there a catch on the free tier?+

Free is genuinely $0 for up to 15 players with the full mitigation pipeline and real IPs. Budget is $10/mo (60 players), Essential $25/mo (150 players, full verification gauntlet, API), Value $40/mo (500 players, geo-steering load balancing). No trial timers.
