Minecraft DDoS protection for Canadian servers

No Canadian PoP, no problem for most of the country: players enter Cloudflare's anycast edge in **Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver**, then ride the private backbone to our **New York (NYC)** PoP. Eastern Canada sees **10–40 ms**; the West coast is honestly more like **60–80 ms** — details and numbers below.

East is excellent, West is honest

Toronto and Montreal are a short fiber run from New York, so players across Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes typically add 10–40 ms — inside the range where nobody notices protection is even there. British Columbia and Alberta are farther from NYC by geography, and no routing trick erases the continent: expect 60–80 ms from Vancouver. That's still comfortably playable for survival, skyblock and most minigames; only the most latency-obsessed West-coast PvP communities will feel it.

Crucially, the long leg is the *good* leg. A Vancouver player on Telus enters Cloudflare's edge in Vancouver itself, and the cross-country hop rides Cloudflare's private backbone instead of public transit. Players on Bell and Rogers in the East get the same local-entry treatment in Toronto and Montreal. See all 7 PoPs and how geo-steering picks one.

What you get in front of your server

Every plan — including Free — runs the full pipeline: Cloudflare Spectrum's 500+ Tbps anycast edge absorbs volumetric floods across 330+ cities, then our own network (AS216013, 600+ Gbps of Layer-7 filtering) applies Cryo, the hostname-aware engine that parses each connection as actual Minecraft protocol. Bot waves that look like real players get routed through CryoLimbo's verification gauntlet; AntiVPN flags proxy and datacenter IPs in real time; and on Essential and above, stolen-account detection kicks credential-leaked accounts before they cause trouble.

Getting started from Canada

Register, create a network, add your backend (for example `198.51.100.9:25565`), verify your domain and point `play.yourdomain.com` at your edge endpoint. If you run Velocity or BungeeCord, flip on PROXY protocol (Velocity, BungeeCord) so direct-to-backend bypass attempts fail. Not ready to pay? The free plan covers servers up to 15 players indefinitely.

Common questions

What latency will Canadian players actually get?+

It depends on where they are. Toronto and Montreal sit close to the New York (NYC) PoP, so Eastern players typically add 10–40 ms — excellent for PvP. Vancouver and the West coast enter Cloudflare locally but still cross the continent on the backbone, landing around 60–80 ms. Most mixed Canadian communities find that split perfectly playable.

Why not just use a protection service with a Canadian location?+

Entry is what determines the first hop, and entry is already Canadian: Cloudflare's anycast edge has presence in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, so packets go local immediately. The remaining leg to NYC rides Cloudflare's private backbone — a faster, more predictable path than most public routes between Canadian ISPs and any single-city protection provider.

Does it matter whether players are on Bell, Rogers or Telus?+

Not much. All three peer with Cloudflare at Canadian exchange points, so the local entry hop is consistently short. The dominant factor in a Canadian player's ping is East-versus-West geography, not their ISP.

My server is hosted in the US. Can Canadian and American players share it?+

Yes — this is the standard cross-border setup. Point the backend at your US host, and geo-steering sends each player to their nearest PoP automatically. A Toronto player and a Texas player both get a local Cloudflare entry and a short backbone ride to NYC or Miami.

What does it cost, and is there a free tier?+

Free is $0: 15 players, 1 backend, the complete mitigation pipeline, real player IPs and 24-hour analytics. Budget is $10/mo (60 players), Essential $25/mo (150 players, full verification gauntlet), and Value $40/mo (500 players, 2 networks, geo-steering load balancing).
